Mauremys reevesii

Chinese Pond Turtle (Mauremys reevesii) is an East Asian freshwater turtle also called Reeves' Turtle or the Chinese Three-keeled Pond Turtle. Three longitudinal ridges on the upper shell provide the feature reflected in one common name, while the head and neck carry fine pale striping. Identification should combine the documented shell or scale characters with locality, because related reptiles can be similar. All claims are limited to the species accounts opened for this batch (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).

It belongs to the pond-turtle family Geoemydidae and uses freshwater environments. Archaeological remains show that this species, together with Chinese Softshell Turtle, was among the turtles used for divination at Shang-dynasty sites. Japanese catalogue records should be interpreted alongside its East Asian native range and history of human movement (Wikipedia, general species account; Wildlife of Japan occurrence records). Details not supported at species level are omitted rather than supplied from related reptiles. Japanese occurrence follows the site's catalogue and the cited distribution information, without using any IUCN conservation material (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).
