Ikonnikov's Myotis

Bats

Myotis ikonnikovi

Basic stats

Range

Eastern Siberia to Japan and Korea

Size

42–51mm

Ikonnikov's myotis is a small vesper bat with a reported adult body length of 42–51mm, a 31–40mm tail, and a 33–36mm wing measurement. Several Japanese names once treated separately, including M. fujiensis, M. hosonoi, M. ozensis, and M. yesoensis, are now listed as synonyms. These these fairly compact external measurements alone are not sufficient for field identification among similar Myotis. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The published summary places the species in eastern Siberia, the Ussuri region, Sakhalin, Hokkaido, Honshu, and the Korean Peninsula. Mongolia is included in the project's checklist, and a Mongolian bat-ectoparasite study explicitly sampled M. ikonnikovi. That local record supports occurrence but does not justify transferring Korean or Japanese ecology to Mongolia. Diet, roost selection, breeding, and a Mongolian viewing location therefore remain unstated. (Scheffler et al. 2016; Mammal Diversity Database)
