Onychodactylus fuscus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Onychodactylus fuscus (Onychodactylus fuscus) is the Tadami Clawed Salamander, measuring roughly 14–16 cm and differing from O. japonicus through a longer tail, wider head and absence of a dorsal stripe. Identification should combine body proportions, colour, skin texture and locality because closely related Japanese salamanders can be difficult to separate. Claims are limited to species accounts opened for this batch (Wikipedia, general species account).
It occurs at four known localities in Fukushima and Niigata, lives in streams, breeds in winter and is reproductively isolated from Japanese Clawed Salamander where they overlap. Information absent from those species-level sources is omitted rather than transferred from relatives. Japanese occurrence follows the catalogue and opened distribution account, without relying on IUCN conservation material (Wikipedia, general species account; Wildlife of Japan occurrence records).
