Scincella boettgeri
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Scincella boettgeri (Scincella boettgeri) is Boettger's Ground Skink, a small smooth-scaled lizard in the family Scincidae native to Japan's Ryukyu Islands. Identification should combine documented pattern, scalation, body form and locality because related Japanese reptiles may be very similar. Claims here are limited to the opened species accounts (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database). Field identification should therefore remain cautious wherever photographs or diagnostic measurements are unavailable.
Its documented occurrence is in the Ryukyus; accessible accounts do not establish sufficient species-level feeding, reproductive or habitat detail, so those traits are left unstated rather than inferred from Scincella relatives. Information absent from those species-level sources is omitted rather than inferred from relatives. Japanese occurrence follows the site's catalogue and the opened distribution accounts (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).
