Goniurosaurus nebulozonatus

Goniurosaurus nebulozonatus (Goniurosaurus nebulozonatus) is a moderate-sized eyelid gecko described in 2024, with adults roughly 75–95 mm in snout-to-vent length. It has reddish-brown irises, enlarged flat overlapping ventral scales and narrow dorsal bands or stripes with diffuse edges; the blurred banding inspired the name formed from Latin words for cloud and band. Identification should use the full combination of documented structure, pattern and locality because closely related island forms may overlap in general appearance (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).

The species is nocturnal and endemic to northern Okinawajima and Kourijima in Japan's Ryukyu Archipelago. Its type locality is Oku in Kunigami Village, and the holotype is an adult male collected in September 2020. The published diagnosis separates it from Kuroiwa's Ground Gecko and other Ryukyu Goniurosaurus through combinations of body size, scale counts and dorsal pattern. The description stays within species-level information available from the opened accounts; traits not documented there are omitted rather than transferred from related lizards (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).
