Goniurosaurus kuroiwae

Kuroiwa's Ground Gecko (Goniurosaurus kuroiwae) is an eyelid gecko with a robust ground-dwelling form, movable eyelids and patterned skin rather than the expanded adhesive toe pads associated with many climbing geckos. It has been known under several English names, including Okinawan ground gecko, Ryukyu eyelid gecko and Tokashiki gecko. Identification should use the full combination of documented structure, pattern and locality because closely related island forms may overlap in general appearance (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).

The species is endemic to the Okinawa Islands within Japan's Ryukyu Archipelago. Available general accounts establish that narrow island distribution and its placement in the eyelid-gecko family Eublepharidae, but do not provide enough consistently accessible species-level ecological detail for a fuller account. Behaviour, diet and reproduction are therefore left unstated here rather than inferred from related Goniurosaurus species. The description stays within species-level information available from the opened accounts; traits not documented there are omitted rather than transferred from related lizards (Wikipedia, general species account; Reptile Database).
